John Stossel Links Gun Control to Higher Crime Rates

On Friday's 20/20, ABC anchor John Stossel discussed the self-defensive benefits of gun ownership, debunking the myth that "gun control reduces crime." The segment aired during 20/20's recurring series, "Myths, Lies & Downright Stupidity," based on Stossel's book of the same title. Citing the recent Federal Appeals Court for DC ruling overturning Washington, D.C.'s ban on gun ownership, Stossel talked to the pro-gun plaintiff in the case, Tom Palmer, and pointed out that the murder rate in D.C. increased after the city's gun ban: "Since Washington's gun law passed, the murder rate actually increased, even while America's murder rate dropped. It's because guns can also save lives, says Palmer, as one saved his years ago in California."

I can see cubanoafuego has put comments all over the place. Yep, just another freaking yellow dog liberal. No thought, just touchy feely "the world will be all better if we just all get along". My guess, an under 30 punk who hasn't experienced the world yet. Talk to me in a couple of years, after you find out the world is not idealistic. The world doesn't need cubanoafuego putting his unexperienced two cents all over YouTube.

Also, I can assure you, you have no experience with street life, otherwise you'd want to be "packin" too. I live near DC, and I've been there plenty of times at night hanging around and whatnot. There have been a few encounters where I've seen people held up at gunpoint. I've also seen numerous gangs from SE D.C. carrying guns around watching kids skate, or selling dope.

You can't buy a flamethrower in the United States from an Arms Dealer. You're the reason why governments and gangs think they can take over everything- because you have no spine / will to stand up for what is right. You seem like the kind of person who would walk past a cop needing help in a fight, or a woman getting raped. You're the reason why people could do things like 9/11.

To tell you the truth I couldn't give a rats a** what your ideas are to make my home a better place because I'm alive and more importantly my child is alive thanks to my country's barbaric ways.

Probably none of you that have written in this post. Well, I'll tell you that owning a gun saved my daughter's and my life. That's something I pray to God not a single one of you ever has to go through. But is my daughter's and my life worth your "civility"?
ArmenTanzarien123 (September 10, 2007 at 2:18 am)
I understand that many of you from the UK have a more civilized view of things, but how many of you can say that you've had to make a choice between the lives of your family and an armed intruder in your home?

so how come it does not happen in iraq very often? do you seriously think people with a few small arms can take down the entire US military, or even the home guard? you must be high.
